I create artist books to amplify the conceptual depth of my projects and to extend the scope of my performative practice. Beyond the creation of the final, unique work, there exists an entire process of exploration, documentation, and immersion. These books serve as both a daily reflection and a technical archive, honoring the subject while preserving the ephemeral gestures, insights, and transformations that form the essence of the work.
Atramentum (2024)
The concept of Atramentum emerged from my fascination with tattooing and the essential role of ink. In Latin, “atramentum” means ink — without it, a tattoo cannot exist. Beyond this, without ink, digital photography cannot be fully realized in print. The two mediums are intimately linked through the fertile idea of ink: its presence, its materiality, and its capacity to leave a trace — the mark that ink leaves in our lives.
Within this series and its accompanying book, the act of burning becomes significant — generating ashes that carry both metaphorical and physical weight. From this emerged the performative gesture of tattooing my model, without a preconceived design, without technical mastery of tattooing, allowing the act itself to shape the work. In this process, my hand became the printer, transferring ink and intention directly onto the body. This unplanned, exploratory act transforms the body into a living canvas, where ink, photography, and performance converge in an intimate, ritualized encounter.
